This watercolor painting captures an Alpaca with white fur & adorned with tassels & a bell.
Peruvian culture has an annual fiber blessing ceremony "alpaca chuyay". The animals are decorated with red, yellow & green yarn tassels on their ears & a bell necklace to signify that it has been blessed. Tassels are also used to replace branding.
Similar to llamas, alpacas are smaller & bred for their excellent wool fiber.
Alpaca wool is stronger than mohair, finer than cashmere, smoother than silk, softer than cotton, warmer than goose down & better breathing than thermal knits. The fur is hypoallergenic, not itchy & can be processed without high temperatures or harsh chemicals & is water & flame-resistant.
