Description
This watercolor painting captures the patio fountain at Laguna Gloria with Lake Austin in the distance. The Driscoll Villa home is a historic landmark. The waterfront land was originally owned by Stephen F. Austin, the father of Texas.
Hal Sevier, editor of the Austin American newspaper & wife Clara Driscoll built this Italian-style home in 1916. They called it "Laguna Gloria", which translates roughly into "Heavenly Lagoon".
They donated their home to be used as an Art Museum. "The Contemporary Austin" includes an Art School on site.
Visitors can see exhibits, tour the villa & walk the estate paths to the adjacent Mayfield Park, with its free-range peacocks.
