Description
This watercolor painting captures a close-up view of a traveler's palm trunk. The inter-woven frond leaves branch off left & right leaving a flat surface on two sides. The mature stems are lovely colors golden yellow & orange.
The plant is closely related to bananas (having similar leaves) & in the same family as the Bird-of-Paradise Flower.
The name "Travelers Palm" is derived from two characteristics.
1. Rainwater flows down the leaves & collects in the base where a thirsty traveler could cut into & drink.
2. They tend to grow in an east-west direction & can serve as a compass, to put you back on track after quenching your thirst :)
