Dating back to 1923, the Hollywood Sign, originally "HOLLYWOODLAND," graced the Santa Monica Mountains as a bold advertisement for a real estate development.
But, little did anyone know, this temporary sign would soon evolve into an internationally recognized symbol that still stands tall today.
The 1940s brought an unexpected twist when a caretaker's mishap toppled the letter "H." It was promptly replaced, and "LAND" was removed, setting the stage for decades of captivating transformations.
The 1970s saw the Hollywood Sign become a canvas for pranksters, transforming it into "HOLLYWEED" as a playful nod to marijuana laws.
