The giant sequoia is the most massive tree in the world, with 30- foot diameter trunks. The coast redwood is the tallest, averaging 300 feet high with the oldest recorded age about 2,200 years old. The forest creates its own climate by capturing the coastal fog on branches & leaves to absorb water & the excess condensed fog rains down to the nutrient-rich ground below.
